Nova Energy has obtained permission to build a natural gas-powered cryptocurrency mining data center in Frenchcreek, Pennsylvania. The permit is based on the approval of three lean-burn natural gas engines that will provide power for cryptocurrency mining. According to a United Nations study in 2023, natural gas accounts for 21% of the energy sources for global Bitcoin mining operations, second only to coal (45%).
